Skilled Services was established in 1993 with the goal of providing fully skilled and equipped construction personnel to commercial general and subcontractors on an as needed basis. The company started with one office in Tampa, Florida and now has 19 locations in six states.
In mid 2002 the senior management of Skilled Services wanted to create an incentive program that would both help reward its existing branch management staff and attract new talent to help the company expand. The result was an ownership program that allowed existing and future branch mangers to earn ownership in their branch operations while earning a competitive wage.
Our Success
On January 1, 2003, the company’s existing branch locations were converted into individual Limited Liability Companies (LLC’s), in which Skilled Services Corporation was the 100% owner. Each branch manager was offered the opportunity to earn up to a 25% ownership interest in their respective branches by simply reaching preset net income targets. If the preset net income target was reached for a given branch the branch manger would earn 2.5% interest in his or her branch with a goal of earning the full 25% over a ten year period of time. The amount of ownership that could be earned in any one year was not capped and of the eight managers that enrolled in January 2003, two have ownership in excess of 11% and four in excess of 6%.
Senior management has now embarked on an aggressive expansion plan to open additional offices throughout the continental United States. It is management's goal to attract entrepreneurial types of individuals with a strong sales background who are local to the expansion locations, who desire an opportunity to earn not only a market level of compensation but also have the opportunity to earn ownership in the business that they helped develop.
