Special Education is a Growing Industry - Personal satisfaction of helping others
The Franchise Opportunity
Dyslexia Institutes of America is the successful result of seven and a half years of benefits of our expertise! You do not need highly specialized training. Each Clinic simply has on staff a director, either full or part time, who is a certified teacher, preferably with experience in Special Education. As your service provider, we will prepare all client assessment results and therapy prescriptions for you. Your clinic will interview and test new clients and administer and monitor their ongoing treatments.
Our History
Dyslexia Institutes of America was founded in 1997 by Dr. Elaine B. Jett, a graduate of the University of Illinois with a doctorate in early childhood education and a minor in reading and psychology. Dr. Jett, author of three basic reading programs for Sylvan Learning Systems, recognized a problem in the clients she observed as owner of her three Sylvan Learning Centers. These students, in spite of the outstanding educational programs offered by Sylvan, were not successful. These students did not match the growth of others in the program and often failed to achieve even minimal success with their academic plan.
By observation, study, and research with actual clients, Dr. Jett was able to develop a program, which successfully diagnosed and treated dyslexics in a clinical setting. Our model clinic opened in November 1999, in Springfield, Illinois.
Clients graduating from the individualized dyslexia program at the clinic are functioning well in the school atmosphere, able to cope with homework and class assignments. Parents report that their children are reading for pleasure and enjoying school for the first time. Many parents have enrolled their graduates into an academic program as offered by Huntington Learning and Sylvan Learning Centers. Parents report that academic programs are successful now, as the child has improved his/her memory skills, cognitive processing skills, and phonological skills.
Adults enrolled in the program report increased visual and auditory memory skills, including immediate, short, and long-term. They also report increased ability to read with comprehension and to spell accurately. Most of the enrolled adults are reading for pleasure for the first time.
Many psychologists, teachers, doctors, and hospitals refer clients for therapy and/or testing.
Some clients may be funded by a number of insurance carriers for therapy and testing. The Department of Human Services in the state of Illinois helps many of the enrolled adults with therapy and testing costs. Additional financial assistance for clients (in Clinics who qualify) is available through the Sallie Mae Loan Program.
Training
A two-week training period is mandatory for all new franchises. During this training you will learn management, operations, marketing, testing, and therapy procedures of the clinic. You will be given hands-on training and observation in therapy procedures and diagnostic testing. Manuals for operating the clinic will be provided for you.
